The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) is Canada's scoring system for Express Entry. It evaluates candidates on four categories: core human capital factors (age, education, language, Canadian work experience — up to 500 points for singles or 460 for married applicants), spouse factors (up to 40 points), skill transferability (up to 100 points), and additional factors like provincial nominations (+600), job offers (+50-200), and French proficiency (+25-50). Maximum total is 1,200 points.
The minimum for Federal Skilled Worker is CLB 7, which corresponds to IELTS 6.0 in all abilities. However, higher scores dramatically increase your CRS: IELTS 8.0+ in all abilities (CLB 10) gives the maximum 136 language points. Each 0.5 IELTS improvement can add 10-30+ CRS points depending on your current score level.
CRS cutoffs change with each IRCC draw, typically every 2-4 weeks. General draws usually range from 430-550 points. Category-based draws (healthcare, STEM, French, trade occupations) may have different cutoffs. Our calculator shows the latest cutoff and tells you exactly how many points you need to close the gap.
The official pass mark is 65 points, but most occupations require 80-90+ points to receive an invitation due to competition. Points are awarded for age (max 30 at age 25-32), English (max 20 for IELTS 8+), education (max 20 for PhD), and work experience (max 20 for 8+ years in Australia). Our calculator shows both your score and the competitive threshold for your situation.
The Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) is Germany's points-based visa launched in 2024. You need 6 points from: language skills (German B2+ = 3pts, English C1 = 1pt), work experience (5yr+ = 3pts), age (under 35 = 2pts), and connection to Germany (1pt). You must also have a recognized university degree or 2-year training plus 2 years of experience. It allows you to enter Germany and search for work for up to one year.
